The eighty-one engravings are presented
in five folios with separate title sheets, within a Solander case 29 1/2 x 24 x 3 7/8 inches (750 x 610 x 98mm) | |
PLATE SIZE
The plates for the Tableaux vary in size from 16 x 12 inches to 21½ x 16 inches (410 x 300 to 545
x 410mm); the plates for the Vignettes vary slightly in size and on average measure 12¾ x 9
inches (325 x 230mm).
PAPER
300 gsm acid-free, special furnish 85% cotton, 15% alpha cellulose, produced in a special making
for this publication by the Arches Mill, Arches, France. Overall sheet size: 22½ x 27½ inches (570
x 695mm).
PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES
The engravings are hand-printed in colours à la poupée, with extensive hand-colouring, and some
application of gum arabic, in the nineteenth-century manner.

IDENTIFICATION
Each engraving is identified on the face with a blind embossed stamp of the Joslyn Art Museum
logo, positioned at the bottom centre of the image.
An indelible ink stamp, positioned within the plate area on the verso, records the marks of the
master printer and publishers, the copyright symbol © and the date of publication.
The edition number and the initials of the colourist are recorded in pencil within the
stamp.
PRESENTATION
The complete edition of the engravings is presented with preliminary sheets of text in a
buckram-bound dust-proof Solander case measuring approximately 29½ x 24 x 3 7/8 inches (750
x 610x 98mm). When full the Solander case weighs approximately 49lbs (22kgs).
Within the case, the engravings are contained in five buckram folders numbered as follows:
Folder 1: Tableaux 1-16 Folder 4: Vignettes I-XVI
Folder 2: Tableaux 17-32 Folder 5: Vignettes XVII-XXXlll
Folder 3: Tableaux 33-48
EDTION SIZE
One hundred and twenty-five complete sets numbered 1/125 to 125/125 with an additional ten
complete hors commerce sets numbered I/X to X/X.
The publishers issue a limited number of selected plates as single prints. Please ask for details.
LIMITATION OF ISSUE
The Joslyn Art Museum has undertaken not too allow any further printing from the plates for a
period of fifty years from this publication.
