The hogfish, Lachnolaimus maximus, is a member of the colourful wrasse family,
which has about 500 species. Although much larger wrasse live in the Indo-Pacific
the hogfish is the largest wrasse in the western Atlantic growing to a length of 3 feet.
Its range extends from the Gulf of Mexico to the north coast of Latin America.
