The top fish illustrated is the spanish hogfish, Bodianus rufus, which is a member of
the wrasse family. It grows to about 15 inches long and lives in the tropical western
Atlantic and the Caribbean sea.

This fish is a species of mojarra, family Gerreidae, which has about 40 species
worldwide. These fishes are known as pursemouths in the Indo-Pacific. They are
not related to shad in the herring family. The mojarras are warm-water fishes of
sandy coastal bays and estuaries. They eat small invertebrates that they suck up
with their protrusible (protractile) mouths.
