[Item Image] The Tang and the Yellow Fish
The Tang and the Yellow Fish
Cate110
$70.00
The blue tang, Acanthurus coeruleus, is a member of the surgeonfish family,
acanthuridae. These fish are named for the spine they possess on either side of the
body leading to the tail. As juvenile fish, blue tangs are completely yellow. They live
in the tropical western Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. They
grow to a length of 9 inches.

The lower fish illustrated has features of a fish in the sea bass or grouper family,
serranidae. It cannot be positively identified although it has a superficial resemblance
to the creole-fish, Paranthias furcifer. The creole-fish has a strongly forked tail
compared to the fish illustrated.
