[Item Image] The Grunt and the Mullet
The Grunt and the Mullet

$70.00
White grunt, Haemulon plumieri. The white grunt is distinctive because of the blue
and white lines across its face. This species lives in the Gulf of Mexico and south to
Brazil. It grows to a length of 1 1/2 feet.

The [lower] illustration shows a grey mullet from the family Mugilidae. Six species of
grey mullet live in the warm waters of the western Atlantic. The fish painted cannot
be identified to species. Mark Catesby painted the mullet without a pectoral fin,
which all mullets possess. Grey mullets are herbivorous fishes that graze algae and
micro-organisms from the bottom and even from the hulls of ships.
