The bind weed Operculina dissecta which is wrapped around the Ximenia in this
drawing was considered by Bartram to be a “most singular and beautiful Species of
Convolvulis” In his description of the Wild lime he describes how the flower is
succeeded by “a large oval fruit, of the shape and size of an ordinary plumb….of the
consistence and taste of the sweet Almond, but more oily and much like hard tallow,
which induced my father when he observed it, to call it the Tallow nut”
