In his report on specimens sent to Fothergill Bartram describes this flower as “a
charming inhabitant of our vast flowering Savanahs & is as distinguished a beauty as
any in Florida….rises 3 or 4 feet high deviding at top into numerous slender branches,
at the extremities of which sits this lovely Pink col’d flower, having a golden starr in
the midst & is extremely fragrant.”
